Greetings, beginners and nature enthusiasts! Have you ever gazed upon a breathtaking landscape and thought, “I wish I could capture this on paper”? Well, today is your lucky day because I’m going to give you tips to draw simple landscapes! (everyone’s dream, right?)
So, close your eyes and imagine yourself on the beach, in front of a beautiful sunset… and if you don’t like the beach, imagine yourself on a hill in front of a forest or mountain… well a landscape that you like. Then, take your sketchbook and your pencil that I recommended to you in my previous blog, and let’s get drawing!
- Hills and valleys: Let’s move on to hills and valleys. Use simple lines and curves to create the undulating contours of the landscape. Remember, this is all about capturing the essence of the terrain, so don’t worry about getting every bump and dip just right.
- Let’s talk about trees: Ah, trees: the heroes of the natural world. Start your landscape by drawing a few simple trees. Whether oaks, pines or willows, trees add depth and character to your scene. Draw any one you like, just make a trunk, branches and leaves and you’re done! Don’t worry about making them perfect: nature loves a little imperfection!
- Rivers in the wild: What would a landscape be without a meandering river or stream? Add a stream meandering through your scene, with ripples and reflections (if you want to try a little more complicated!). Pro tip: drawing sinuous lines is not only fun, it’s also incredibly therapeutic and relaxing after a big day at school.
- A Lovely Sky: Look up, my friends, and admire the vast expanse of sky! Whether it’s a clear blue day, a sunset or a starry night, it’s the sky that sets the mood for your landscape. Experiment with different colors, different types of skies, although I recommend drawing clouds: really simple and beautiful!
- Composition is essential: Don’t forget the golden rule of composition: the rule of thirds (and yes, even in drawing it’s interesting to use this rule). Just divide your canvas into thirds, horizontally and vertically, and place your elements along these lines to create a balanced and harmonious composition. But if you’re a photographer or filmmaker, you understand exactly what I’m talking about!
Here it is, my crash course (I hope I passed) in drawing simple landscapes that would make Mother Nature herself proud. But now look at your drawing… I’m sure that it’s really great, but would it be better if you know how to choose the right paper? Indeed, in drawings pencils and techniques are important but paper too, choosing an appropriate paper according to what you want to do is really important! So, meet up right here, so that you can know how to choose it (;.
Until next time, keep dreaming and drawing!
